National Theatre :: July 2015 and 2016

NT Associate Director Dan Bird

Connections is the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools. Connections gives young people experience of professional theatre-making - producing their show at a home venue and a Connections festivals around the country. Each year the Connections team travels the length and breadth of the country to support and encourage the participants – and to mark the end of the cycle, one production of each of the ten commissioned plays is invited to perform at the National Theatre.

In 2015, following seven years of working for the Connections team, I became Associate Director of Connections - selecting the productions that come to the National, and then working with the companies to reimagine, redesign and restage their work on a new scale for the NT’s Olivier and Dorfman stages.
